What is in a MIC-B12 injection?

MIC stands for methionine, inositol and choline, three nutrients involved in how the liver handles fat, combined with vitamin B12. These are often called lipotropic injections. The B12 component has clear value when B12 is low; the evidence that the MIC blend causes weight loss on its own is weak, so it is offered as a supporting piece of a plan, not the plan.

Who asks about MIC-B12?

Patients in a weight loss program who want a supporting injection, and people with low B12.

  • Patients in a supervised weight loss plan
  • People with confirmed low B12
  • Patients who understand it is not a stand-alone treatment
Do MIC-B12 injections help you lose weight?

Not on their own. Weight loss comes from the overall plan.

Evidence. Good evidence supports B12 for deficiency; the blend's effect on weight is not well established.

Regulatory status. Compounded MIC-B12 is not FDA-approved.

Not IV. MIC-B12 is an injection. Protocol Health does not offer IV therapy.

Where MIC-B12 fits

An add-on. Usually alongside a medical weight loss plan, not instead of one.

B12 included. Useful when B12 is low, which labs can confirm.

Given at the clinic. Injections are given at the Scarsdale clinic.

Straight talk. Your provider is plain that the evidence for weight loss from the blend itself is weak.

Adding MIC-B12 to a plan

Usually within the weight loss program.

  1. Consultation. Goals, history and current plan.
  2. Labs if useful. B12 and metabolic labs drawn at the clinic.
  3. Injection schedule. Set with your provider.
  4. Review. Whether it is worth continuing.
