What is sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a short fragment of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), the signal the brain uses to tell the pituitary to release growth hormone. It does not replace growth hormone. It asks the pituitary to release more of its own, which keeps the body's normal feedback in place. The evidence in adults comes from small, short studies, so your provider will be plain about what sermorelin has and has not been shown to do.

Who is sermorelin for?

Sermorelin is considered case by case. Suitability is a physician decision based on your history, symptoms and labs.

  • Adults interested in a growth hormone-releasing peptide under medical supervision
  • Patients who want labs and follow-up rather than an online order
  • Patients who understand the evidence is limited and the product is compounded
  • Not appropriate for everyone; your provider reviews contraindications at the evaluation
Sermorelin in a broader care plan

Protocol Health connects treatments, diagnostics, and lifestyle support so each service is considered as part of a coordinated plan rather than in isolation.

Assessment. We begin with your goals, symptoms, medical history, and any relevant testing or prior care.

Personalization. If appropriate, your provider builds recommendations around your biology, preferences, and clinical context.

Monitoring. Progress is reviewed over time so your plan can be adjusted for safety, response, and results.

How sermorelin care works here

Your own growth hormone. Sermorelin prompts the pituitary to release growth hormone rather than supplying it from outside.

Labs first. Baseline labs help your provider decide whether sermorelin makes sense and give a reference point for follow-up.

Physician oversight. Care is directed by medical director Richard Dentico, MD, and our providers include Russell Tigges, MD, who is certified in peptide management.

Honest expectations. Adult studies are small and short. Your provider explains what is known, what is not, and how progress will be judged.

Common questions

Sermorelin: frequently asked questions

Is sermorelin FDA-approved?

Not today. Sermorelin was approved as Geref in 1990 as a diagnostic and in 1997 for growth hormone deficiency in children, then discontinued by its maker in 2008. The sermorelin prescribed now is compounded, and compounded drugs are not FDA-approved.

How is sermorelin different from growth hormone?

Growth hormone replaces the hormone directly. Sermorelin is a GHRH fragment that prompts the pituitary to release its own growth hormone, so the body's normal feedback stays in place.

Do I need labs before starting sermorelin?

Your provider will usually order baseline labs. They help decide whether sermorelin makes sense and give a reference point for follow-up.

Can I start sermorelin by telehealth?

Yes, if you are eligible. Protocol Health offers telehealth in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and California, and in-person care at our Scarsdale clinic.

How does sermorelin compare with ipamorelin or tesamorelin?

All three affect growth hormone release, through different routes and with different evidence and FDA status. Our sermorelin vs ipamorelin and sermorelin vs tesamorelin guides set them side by side.
