Editorial policy
Protocol Health publishes health articles so patients can understand their options before they talk to a clinician. This policy explains how those articles are written, sourced, reviewed and kept current.
Our mission
Our articles answer the questions patients actually ask about hormones, weight loss, peptides, diagnostics and longevity, in plain language, with the answer first and the evidence attached. They are educational and never replace a consultation with a licensed clinician.
Who writes our content
Articles are written by the Protocol Health Editorial Team, the people who run Protocol Health's patient education, working to the standards on this page. Every article is then medically reviewed by a licensed physician on our medical team before it is published, and the reviewer is named on the article with a link to their profile.
Our named medical reviewer is Richard Dentico, MD, Protocol Health's co-founder and medical director.
Our sources
We cite primary sources and link them inline, and every article ends with a numbered reference list. In order of preference we use:
- FDA prescribing information, FDA safety communications and other U.S. government sources (FDA, CDC, NIH).
- Peer-reviewed randomized trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, linked through PubMed or the journal.
- Clinical practice guidelines from specialty societies, such as the Endocrine Society and The Menopause Society.
- We do not use consumer health sites, product sellers or social media as evidence.
Compounding and regulatory statements
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and are not the same as brand-name products, and our articles say so wherever a compounded medication is discussed. Peptides that are not FDA-approved are described that way, with what the research does and does not show.
No pricing in educational content
Our articles never state prices, fees, discounts or cost ranges. Pricing depends on your plan, and a consultation is the first step.
Advertising and commercial separation
Articles may invite you to book a consultation. They never sell a product, and no treatment is prescribed without a clinician's evaluation.
Updates
Our articles are checked every day and refreshed when the evidence, the regulation or the question changes. The "Updated" date on an article changes only when its content changes, and it always matches the date in the page's structured data.
Corrections
If you see an error, email care@protocolhealthmd.com. We review every report, correct confirmed errors promptly, and update the article's date when we do.
